Yeeeaaaa whattup Fam!!! Got that Day for Night recording coming atchya hot… Will sent me this a little while back and I finally got around to working on the audio. I know that it came as a surprise to everybody that the big man decided to go with an all analog set for this event, but for what the fest focuses on I think it was a pretty perfect fit… This quote is taken from the ‘About’ section on the Day for Night website: “Day for Night is a current snapshot of popular music as well as a showcase for trailblazers who continue to cross over the fringes to become influencers. Eschewing the idea of musical genres, Day for Night focuses instead on acts that specialize in an inventive and highly visual approach to performing.” With that in mind, we have to give it up to Derek for coming out and performing this style in front of that large of a crowd… It takes a great deal of confidence to step on stage and perform something 100% original, on the spot, un-rehearsed, never to be heard like that again… Fully real time, as he dubbed it “live techno, sorta hip-hop style”… I know these sets always have mixed reviews, but you have to think about the intricacies of what is happening on stage. This shit is EXTREMELY technical, and it takes years of time and practice to build a modular synth that you can play live on stage. Even he said he was nervous!! But you can definitely hear his skills increasing on the mod, there are some moments that are REALLY DOPE. Then closing out with The Sun Spreads In Our Minds. I really tried to get this version to HIT hard, and as we all know it has been such a journey hearing this track evolve. A constant work in progress, just like the live modular synth stuff… I hope that y’all dig. MASSIVE props as always to Will Guy & Brandon Rietheimer for their constant work with the live audio recordings and updates to the PLL site… This shit wouldn’t be possible without them!!!
